Voices For Science – Twitter campaign for Earth Week 2019
Leave a commentMay 18, 2019 by Dr. G
I’ve recently started my year-long journey as a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Voices for Science program in the Media/Communications track [see my posts on my AGU blog about my start in the program]. Part of my goals for the upcoming year is to increase my engagement on Twitter and the educational information and resources I share. In late April, I completed my first week-long Twitter campaign (utilizing TweetDeck to queue the tweets), tapping in to Earth Day/Earth Week and the Earth Day Network‘s 2019 theme of Protect Our Species. I’ve included all the tweets I posted below. Enjoy! (And it shouldn’t be any surprise that I focused most of my efforts on ocean species…)
Starting on Monday, which was April 22 (the actual Earth Day):
Happy #EarthDay everyone! In honor of #EarthDay2019 and #EarthWeek, I'll be posting this week on the @EarthDayNetwork campaign theme, #ProtectOurSpecies – learn how you can get involved with their education and advocacy efforts – https://t.co/0Wg23ZbKRo

Today for #EarthDay & all week in our @psulibs #VairoLibrary we are raising our #VoicesForScience and advocating to #ProtectOurSpecies – specifically, our bees and pollinators. Students can fill out online @NRDC forms & write postcards to the EPA & Amazon to ban neonic pesticides pic.twitter.com/3UHHbd6gnS
— Dr. G (@guertin) April 22, 2019
The campus community is also spending #EarthDay raising our #VoicesForScience by using the @EarthDayNetwork interface to email our Senators to support the Pollinator Recovery Act – you can do the same! #ProtectOurSpecies https://t.co/mfLSAt6be8 pic.twitter.com/T7RYxLPxGN

I'm very fortunate that our @psulibs #VairoLibrary is always willing to support STEM-themed celebrations like #EarthDay – to connect with the @EarthDayNetwork theme of #ProtectOurSpecies, they set up a book display to call attention to our pollinators pic.twitter.com/8La8xsWgey
