PA – 2018 Philadelphia Rally For Science

I was honored to be asked to serve as one of the speakers for the Philadelphia Science Action (PSA)’s Rally for Science on Saturday, April 14. Instead of having a March for Science in 2018, the PSA want to turn their efforts and focus towards encouraging individuals to not only take a stand for science but to take action.
For fun, I documented my experience as a speaker. Please follow my journey through the following tweets! The text of my speech can be found on my AGU Blog GeoEd Trek.
Documenting my day today as I get ready to speak at the @PHLScienceAct #RallyforScience! First up – trying to figure out which @PSUBrandywine shirt to wear (and this shelf isn’t even my entire @penn_state t-shirt collection!) #MarchForScience #Philly pic.twitter.com/Y6WSyrTJ83

Thankful to have public transportation that can bring me in to #Philly for the @PHLScienceAct #RallyforScience – waiting for the @SEPTA_ELW regional rail with my @theAGU sign! #MarchForScience pic.twitter.com/YxFwRMOolY

Ashley Winslow from @PHLScienceAct #RallyforScience asks the crowd to take on two activities: (1) Engage in scientific discussions on a regular basis; and (2) Let’s make activism a civic duty rather than a radical act #MarchForScience #Philly pic.twitter.com/GKyqEuYHGj

Started the day speaking at the @PHLScienceAct #RallyforScience, ending the day at the #Philadelphia @sixers game! First game of the first round in the playoffs, against the Miami Heat. #GoSixers #basketball #whyilovephilly pic.twitter.com/TG20zhWJMy

[The Sixers won, by the way!]
Reflecting back on today’s #RallyforScience, one of my favorite quotes came from @PHLScienceAct Kim Beidler (I’ll paraphrase): #Philly does an excellent job with championship parades for @Eagles & @NovaMBB – would be great to have a Philly Nobel scientist parade 👨🔬 👩🔬
