PA – pre-TLT Symposium

March 14, 2013 by Dr. G

I’ve arrived in State College today, getting ready for a series of grant meetings, activities with the Department of Geosciences, and presenting at the Penn State Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium.

I “crashed” the Fair Trade at Penn State meeting this evening, being run by former Penn State Brandywine student/founding Fair Trade TrailBlazer/now president of the club at University Park (drumroll, please….)… Sarah DeMartino!  I was excited to hear about all the club is doing to promote Fair Trade.  Sarah and I also spoke for an additional hour about what is currently going on in the Fair Trade world, what we would like to see happen, and what we would like to do in our Fair Trade future (watch out, Garstang – Sarah and Dr. G may be coming over there to walk the Fair Trade Way!).

(*I apologize that I originally had a much longer post, but WordPress was not kind to me and deleted my post and the past drafts, too – note to self, copy the post before hitting save!)

Day 3 of #DayOfScience and I had a television interview (via Zoom!). For those of you living in Massachusetts, look for me on Innovation Showcase with Jay Sugarman, where I discuss my journey into science quilting! @scienceathon #SciQuilt #SciComm
For my second #DayOfScience during the @scienceathon, it was seven student meetings and a Faculty Senate meeting - too much Zoom time! So I zipped out for a walk around the neighborhood before finishing up a project this evening. I volunteer with the Delaware County Institute of Science in Media (pictured here & on my walking route!), and last night I ran their first lecture of their 2021-2022 Lecture Series in Zoom. I need to finish editing the recorded video and post online to continue the education and engagement!
Excited to start the @scienceathon this week! On my first #DayOfScience, I have a meeting with a colleague, four student appointments, and I’m presenting on a faculty panel for MNSU for their Bringing Research into the Classroom Certificate program - & that’s all before lunch!
Starting to dive in to the @katharinehayhoe book Saving Us, and I love how the Preface ends: “To care about climate change, you only need to be one thing, and that’s a person living on planet Earth who wants a better future. Chances are, you’re already that person-and so is everyone else you know.”
We wrapped up #EarthScienceWeek at @psubrandywine and the theme “Water Today and for the Future” with announcing the winners of our campus photography contest, along an Earth Science Week book display in the campus @vairolibrarypsu!
