Hey @themarjoriefl - did you know that Marjory Stoneman Douglas is in the @smithsonian #NationalPortraitGallery? Excited to see her honored among others in the Twentieth-Century Americans exhibit! #everglades #advocate #FloridaWoman #florida @smithsoniannpg #myNPG
My first visit to the @smithsonian #NationalPortraitGallery, and I spent most of my time in the America’s Presidents exhibit - not just because of these amazing cross-bedded sandstone columns! @smithsoniannpg #presidentialportrait #sandstone #geology #museum #smithsonian #myNPG
Before I get saturated at @americangeophysicalunion Fall Meeting this week with all things Earth & space science, we’re taking a break and catching the always entertaining Capitol Steps show in DC. The first song listed in the program is: “Oops I Tweeted Again.” This should be a fun evening! #AGU18 #capitolsteps #comedy #worklifebalance
This weekend, I went zipping between grocery stores, as they had an amazing sale on pasta sauce. The Ragu isn’t for me (I’m actually allergic to tomatoes), it’s for a sustainability-themed innovative design competition we’re having on campus to benefit the local food bank. Filling my grocery cart with these plastic jars (perfect for stacking, by the way) reminded me of a time I spoke to a group of graduate students interested in careers in academia. When I shared the broad range of duties and tasks faculty perform, I was surprised that many of them pushed back on that thought and declared that they would only teach and do research - period. No intention of supporting student work outside of their “duties”. Well I have a message for all graduate students - you may have a PhD from one of the top programs in your field - but, sometimes, you are going to run errands to benefit your students and enhance student programming. Get used to it. #whatfacultydo
I’ve been to the #WellsFargoCenter for a lot of events in Philly. Last evening, I had the amazing opportunity to see @michelleobama speak about her book! The take-home message - we should all be telling stories, as it helps us realize what we have in common and strips away barriers. #IAmBecoming
